Find answers about setup, security, supported assets, and activation for Wallet for Digital Assets on macOS Sequoia 15.3.
General
What is Wallet for Digital Assets?
Wallet for Digital Assets is a feature built into macOS Sequoia 15.3 that lets you store, send, and receive cryptocurrency directly from your Mac. It is an extension of the Wallet app that already manages your Apple Pay cards, passes, and Apple Cash.
Which cryptocurrencies are supported?
At launch, Wallet supports Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), USD Coin (USDC), and Tether (USDT). Apple adds support for additional networks and tokens through macOS software updates.
Is Wallet for Digital Assets available in my country?
Apple is rolling out this feature in stages to comply with regional financial regulations. In some regions, it activates automatically through System Settings. In other regions, you can activate it manually using Terminal. Check Apple's feature availability page for the latest information.
Security
How are my private keys stored?
Private keys are generated and stored in the Secure Enclave on your Mac. They never leave the device and are not accessible to Apple, apps, or other processes. This is the same hardware security used for Touch ID and Apple Pay.
Can Apple access my wallet or funds?
No. Wallet for Digital Assets is non-custodial. Apple does not store, access, or control your private keys, wallet addresses, balances, or transaction history.
What happens if I lose my Mac?
If you enabled iCloud Keychain backup, your encrypted wallet data syncs across your Apple devices. You can also restore your wallet on a new Mac using your recovery phrase. Apple recommends writing down your recovery phrase and storing it in a secure location.
Is Touch ID required for transactions?
By default, all outgoing transactions require Touch ID or your account password. You can configure authentication requirements in System Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Digital Assets > Security.
Using Wallet
How do I send cryptocurrency?
Open Wallet, select the asset you want to send, click Send, enter the recipient address and amount, review the transaction details, and authenticate with Touch ID. Network fees are displayed before you confirm.
How do I receive cryptocurrency?
Open Wallet, select the asset, and click Receive. Wallet displays a QR code and your wallet address. Share either with the sender. Incoming transactions appear in your activity feed.
Does Wallet support decentralized apps (dApps)?
Yes. Wallet integrates with WalletConnect, allowing you to connect to decentralized applications in Safari. When a dApp requests a transaction, Wallet prompts you to review and approve it with Touch ID.
Are there transaction fees?
Apple does not charge fees for using Wallet. Standard network fees (gas fees for Ethereum, transaction fees for Bitcoin) apply and are paid to the respective blockchain network. Fee estimates are shown before you confirm a transaction.
Activation
Why do I need to activate manually?
Apple is enabling Wallet for Digital Assets region by region to meet local regulatory requirements. Manual activation through Terminal updates the FinanceKit framework, which enables the Wallet interface for Digital Assets regardless of your region.
Is the Terminal command safe?
The activation command updates Apple's FinanceKit framework on your Mac. FinanceKit is the same system framework used by Apple Pay, Apple Card, and financial data features in macOS. The command does not modify system files or change security settings.
Do I need to restart my Mac after activation?
In most cases, Wallet appears immediately after running the activation command. If it does not appear, restart your Mac to complete the framework update.
